Rev. Nancy Boldt Baseel

Minister/Head of Staff
(she/they)

Pastor Nancy joined us in January of 2020, our first full-time minister in ten years. Nancy moved to Hartford in 2017, with a strong sense of call to minister in the heart of the city, with all its complexities, challenges, and vitality.

Prior to her work in Hartford, Nancy was the Minister of Faith Formation and Discipleship at Storrs Congregational Church; First Presbyterian Church of New Haven; and Fourth Presbyterian Church of Boston. Although she was formally educated at Colgate University, Yale Divinity School, and Harvard Divinity School, her most formative ministry education comes from serving the Church in the world and working alongside ministry colleagues.

Nancy is a creative and enthusiastic dreamer and leader who seeks ways to incorporate her love of inter-generational worship, art and music in her leadership style. Her priorities are guided by pursuing questions: is it life-giving? does it point us in the direction of justice? is it led by love?

Nancy served as a board member for Music that Makes Community and actively practices community music-making.  She also taught for Music Together and is a trained leader for Musicians without Borders in Palestine.  As a justice advocate, Nancy has spent a great deal of time in Palestine and has led several journeys there through the CT-based advocacy group, The Tree of Life.  She also currently serves as a regional coordinator for the Tree of Life, a member of the Palestine-Israel Network, and a Committee on Ministry member for the Presbytery of Southern New England. Recently, Nancy has been delighted to join a clergy cohort working with the Greater Hartford Interfaith Action Alliance.

Nancy has a great deal of passion for life and the many ways it is lived.  Therefore, her interests are deep and wide.  In addition to music and low-tech art-making, she enjoys doing every single thing with her children (especially biking the streets of Hartford); combining physical activity with the great outdoors; and most of all, spending time with people, all kinds.  Rooted in her faith life, Nancy believes that working for justice and loving each soul is the essence of loving God.
